Visualize the TESS Field-of-View (FOV) with your SciDome!
Displaying Field-of-View (FOV) indicators on the dome using Starry Night 7 is a useful way to reveal the different observational strategies of various telescopic observation missions. The 4 cameras of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) have some of the largest FOVs in telescope history, allowing TESS to survey the entire night sky in a relatively short amount of time. You can easily create FOV indicators to illustrate each of TESS’s 4 camera FOVs within each of the 40 observation sectors, if you know the coordinates.
Display Simulated Results for the TESS Mission as predicted by NASA science teams
As of December 2019, TESS is currently 1 year, 8 months into its 2-year prime mission, and has detected 37 confirmed exoplanets, along with over 1500 candidates. Although the mission is still in progress, several groups associated with the TESS Science Team have run simulations to predict the number, distribution, and properties of planets that TESS will detect. Until the mission is concluded and results are tabulated, presenting the results of simulations provides the best visualization of the scope and long-term impact of the TESS mission.
